Labels give minimums and maximums, so the usual math reads low for meaty cans. Why labels read carbs low.
Why many low-carb lists show 0% carbs
Cat food labels don't list carbs, so sites estimate them: 100 minus protein, fat, fiber, water and ash. But labels give protein and fat as minimums and water as a maximum. For meaty cans, the math lands near zero.
Some brands publish lab tests, so we can measure the error. On 164 Weruva meals, the typical lab number is about 4.7 percentage points higher than the estimate from the label (the label math). 42 of them look under 1% by label but test at 5% or more. On 8 ZIWI meals, the gap is about 6.7 points.4, 7
So we use lab numbers wherever a brand publishes them, and we mark label estimates. A can that shows "under 1%" by label is low in carbs, but likely not zero.
